Viewers encouraged to call during information phone bank event tomorrow

Fresno – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is teaming up with KSEE24/CBS47 to inform California residents about the REAL ID driver license and identification card program.  DMV representatives will be discussing the REAL ID program during newscasts on both television stations from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on September 25.

The DMV and KSEE24/CBS47 want residents to be prepared for upcoming changes to federal identification requirements to board flights within the United States, and access secure federal facilities and military bases that begin October 1, 2020.  When the enforcement date takes effect, Californians will be required to show one of the following documents at airport security checkpoints and federal screening locations:  

For Californians who want to continue to use their driver license or identification card to fly within the United States or visit secure federal facilities, the DMV offers residents a federal compliant REAL ID driver license and identification card, which is identified with a bear and star.

To apply, individuals must visit a DMV office and bring the following documents:

    One Proof of Identity – Original or Certified
         (Ex: Valid passport, birth certificate, etc.

    One Proof of Social Security number

    Two Proofs of California Residency – Paper Copies
         (Ex: Utility bill, cell phone bill, bank statement, vehicle registration card)

Convenient Options

Save Time, Go Online: Many DMV transactions can be completed by using DMV Online Services at dmv.ca.gov. The website allows Californians to change their address, complete a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability, order special license plates, schedule an appointment, and more.

Extended Morning Hours: The DMV offers extended morning hours at 69 of its offices.  Doors open one hour earlier, at 7 a.m., every weekday except Wednesday. Find an office here.
