Three-day “Help for Truckers Days” event offers multiple services for convenience

Sacramento – The Department of Motor Vehicles will join with the Port of Long Beach to assist commercial drivers in need of a motor carrier permit during a three-day one-stop trucker access event today through December 16.

New motor carriers must apply for a permit before they begin operations and can submit the application en línea. Permit renewals must be completed online. During the event, DMV team members will assist permit applicants and answer questions.

This week’s event is hosted by the Port of Long Beach in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration and the identity certification firm IDEMIA. The event will be held 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., today through Thursday at the Port of Long Beach Terminal Access Center, 1265 Harbor Ave., Long Beach.

Recognizing the importance in delivering essential services and supplies, the DMV has taken several steps to assist commercial drivers. The DMV recently extended commercial driver’s licenses, learner’s permits, endorsements and special certificates expiring between March 2020 and February 2022 through February 28, 2022.

The DMV also is expanding capacity to conduct commercial driving tests. The DMV offers commercial drive tests at 23 locations statewide, including 15 with Saturday appointments. The Department began offering an extra testing day at select locations this year. The DMV is also training more staff to administer the tests and redirecting examiners to the areas of greatest demand to significantly expand testing capacity and appointment availability.
