FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 31, 2020
Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), in conjunction with the California Department of Technology (CDT), is preparing for its second annual Vendor Day. This year’s DMV Vendor Day will be September 9 at 9 a.m. in a virtual setting.
Vendor Day is an opportunity for outside organizations to learn firsthand about DMV’s modernization vision and influence how the DMV will deliver services to 40 million Californians. Vendors will have an opportunity to propose solutions and a few of those will be selected to pitch new ideas to DMV executives on ways to successfully transform how the DMV conducts business in a changing environment.
Hundreds of organizations attended last year’s DMV Vendor Day, which led to multiple vendor presentations. The DMV incorporated several of the innovative technological ideas that were pitched as it implemented solutions and created new service channels to better serve DMV customers.
The DMV is in the midst of a digital update and has transformed many of its systems and processes, including:
- Launched a redesigned and responsive website
- Simplified authentication and account creation
- Implemented Machine Vision and Machine Learning in support of REAL ID
- Operationalized a new Virtual Field Office during the height of COVID-19
- Enabled new and expanded online services for web and mobile devices
- Completed the expansion of credit cards and mobile wallet payment options to all DMV offices.
Technological advancements continue with the upcoming ability to report vehicle accidents online and the creation of a “digital mailroom.” The upgrades increase efficiency and reduce waste, such as the DMV’s recent adoption of tablets to collect customer signatures, rather than paper.
